Welcome to Manila

We, the Philippine students, arrived at Manila june, 17 in the morning at 8 o'clock. After landing, we travelled to the Kabayan Hotel, checked in and prepared the arrival of the Germans. They came to the hotel at 19 o'clock.

After some problems to get to Berlin we, the German students, had a nice flight - we arrived safe and sound.

Past the reunion we had a typical Philippine dinner. We could choose between dalagang bukid (fish), chicken and pork. As garnish we got a lot of rice and chop suey. Most of the Germans liked the native food. And as you can imagine - the Filipinos, too. After our common meal all of us fall asleep very fast. So we couldn't see the German defeat in the world championship of soccer.

The next morning.....

All of the Germans were amazed about the plenty of rice and pork - even for the breakfast.

At 10 o'clock we started our study trip through Metro-Manila. We learned about the national hero José Rizal and his peaceful fight for the independence from the Spanish authority in the 19th century.

After the little history lesson we went to the Manila Bay to fill our empty tummys while having a nice view over the sea. We continued to eat typical Philippine food to open our mind. Especially Gising-Gising and Kare-Kare tasted very well.

The last destination of our daily trip was the "Mall of Asia", one of the biggest malls in the world. It is a great contrast to the poorer parts of the city we could see in the bus trip before.

For driving back through the tough traffic we used a typical kind of transportation in the Philippines, the Jeepney.

Magandang gabi (Good night) from the Philippines :)

We look forward to your comments. Don't be shy.
